OTHM COURSES The Organisation for Tourism and Hospitality (OTHM) is a membership body founded in London in 2001 by a group of specialists from the industry and academia. OTHM provides a programme of professional qualifications that are designed for Student Members to develop progressively the skills and knowledge they will need to help them pursue their careers in Tourism and Hospitality industry. OTHM Qualification Entry Requirements There are four levels of qualification open to OTHM Student Members THMM Qualification | Entry Requirements | Introductory Certificate | Individuals who want to commence or have commenced work in the tourism and hospitality industry. Students with a lower level of English than required IELTS 6.0 will be given the option of combining their OTHM course with IELTS course. Qualifications
Introductory Certificate OTHM The OTHM Introductory Certificate is suitable for Student Members who are at the beginning of their careers. Candidates do not need to have experience of working in the industry at the beginning of the course. However, if students do not have relevant experience, they will be expected to be working in the industry on a part-time basis during the course. Students must be 18 years or older to enrol.

Pass Mark Candidates should attain at least 50% in on-line examination to gain the Introductory Certificate. Progression On passing the OTHM Introductory Certificate Members will be eligible to be considered for OTHM Professional Certificate course. Professional Certificate OTHM The OTHM Certificate is suitable for students who have already gained an OTHM Introductory Certificate or who have qualifications at the level of GCE/GCSE or equivalent. It is also suitable for mature students with at least 5 years’ relevant experience. | Modules | | The OTHM Certificate consists of 4 modules: | | 1. AssessmentEach module is assessed by a three-hour written examination. ProgressionOn passing the OTHM Professional Certificate Members will be eligible to be considered for OTHM Professional Diploma course. Professional Diploma OTHM The OTHM Diploma is suitable for people who have passed the OTHM Certificate (or equivalent) or who are already working at supervisory or management level. Work Experience Diploma students are expected to either have work experience in the industry or be working part-time in the industry during the course. | Modules: | | Part 1 | | 1. AssessmentEach module is assessed by a three-hour written examination. ProgressionOn passing the OTHM Professional Diploma Members will be eligible to be considered for OTHM Professional Higher Diploma course. Professional Higher Diploma OTHM The OTHM Higher Diploma is suitable for people who work in the Tourism and Hospitality Industry and who have already gained an OTHM Diploma, or other qualifications at a suitable level. This qualification is appropriate for middle and senior managers. Work Experience Higher Diploma students are expected to either have work experience in the industry before joining the course or be working part-time in the industry during the course. | Modules: | | Part 1 | | 1. AssessmentEach of modules 1 to 5 is assessed by a three-hour written examination. Module 6 is assessed by a project. ProgressionOn passing the OTHM Higher Diploma Members will be eligible to be considered for various courses in recognised colleges and universities in the UK and around the world. 
Relationships with Universities OTHM has a key relationship with London South Bank University allowing holders of the OTHM Higher Diploma to have direct entry to the final year of London South Bank University's Batchelor's degree programme BA (Hons) in Tourism and Hospitality. Students who have successfully completed the OTHM Higher Diploma and who have two years’ management experience in the Tourism and Hospitality industry are eligible to apply for entry to London South Bank University's MSc programme. 
Thames Valley University has also accredited OTHM programmes and now considers applications to their Tourism and Hospitality Degrees and Postgraduate programmes. OTHM Membership All individuals who wish to take OTHM qualifications must be members of OTHM. The entry level of membership for the Examination Track is Student Member. Candidates will apply for the OTHM membership through TLSI.
